Centre for Engineering Better Care

CEBC occupies an appropriately sized footprint on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It is located in the Clifford Allbutt Building, which is right outside Addenbrookes' Outpatients Clinics. With two main complementary labs, it acts as a physical hub for both experimental and service design, and quality improvement activities:

  • Biomedical Lab
  • Improvement Lab

Biomedical Lab

The Biomedical Lab is a Containment Level 1 lab, which is suitable for work with agents in Biological Hazard Group 1. It is equipped with essential biolab necessities, electronic engineering necessities, as well as a 3D printer Ultimaker S5, which can be booked online once you work in CEBC. Meanwhile, members have access to the Dyson Centre and Biomakespace.

More equipment is being purchased for this lab to facilitate upcoming projects.

Improvement Lab

The Improvement Lab is complementary to our Biomedical Lab, which provides an inspiring space for students, junior doctors, academic clinicians and engineers to meet and develop a common understanding of challenges and ideas for improvement. Besides being able to provide spacious space for 16-20 people meeting, the corners of the room are also equipped as separate meeting spaces. The Improvement Lab can be booked online once you are a member.

Other Offices

In between these two main labs, a small quiet meeting room is suitable for conference calls accommodating two or three people. Furthermore, a small fully functional office is located off the map above, which is able to accommodate two people with a shared computer, screens, printer etc.
